Raised in Nice, Jean-Pascal Beintus began his musical studies at the Nice Conservatory before entering the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique of Lyon, then the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique of Paris. In 1984, he joined the Orchestre National de Lyon under Sir John Eliot Gardiner as a double bassist. In 1996, Kent Nagano, then Music Director of the Opéra de Lyon, recognized his talent as a composer and commissioned his first orchestral work, a concerto for orchestra.

Since then, Beintus has composed for leading ensembles including the Orchestre de l’Opéra de Lyon, the Berlin Philharmonic, the Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin, the Orchestre Symphonique de Montréal, the London Symphony Orchestra, the Orchestra of the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia (Clarinet Concerto for Alessandro Carbonare), and the Russian National Orchestra.

His work Wolf Tracks, recorded by Kent Nagano with Bill Clinton and Mikhail Gorbachev, earned him a Grammy Award in 2003.

As an orchestrator, Beintus has contributed to over one hundred films, including Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Jurassic World Rebirth, Guillermo del Toro’s Frankenstein, and The Shape of Water. His concert music continues to be performed worldwide.
